You hear it over and over again… “you should stretch more.”
It is very easy to forget to stretch. But in reality, it is the truth- you really should do it everyday.
There are so many benefits from stretching for a few minutes each day.
Better flexibility can improve your performance, decrease your risk of injury, improve your range of motion and posture, increase blood flow to your muscles, and let your muscles function more efficiently. Better circulation sends more oxygen to your brain, which can lead to a better mood.
Stretching is just as important as the exercises you perform, so do not neglect it! Stretch before and after your workout to keep your muscles limber and prevent injury. Hold each stretch for at least 15 seconds and breathe through it to reap the most benefits.
Another great time to stretch is as soon as you wake up. Stretching can calm your mind and help you focus better, so start your day off right! You can even remain laying in bed as you stretch. That doesn’t sound too bad, does it?
Improve your flexibility- You will be amazed by how much your muscles will lengthen and love you for it.
A few stretches I like to hit everyday are:
- downward facing dog
- lunges- to open up my hips
- figure four stretches either standing or sitting on the floor
- calf stretches on a wall
- standing quad stretch- I grab my foot with one hand and try to lengthen my leg down towards the ground
